How to Combat Pregnancy Swelling!
I'm sure you remember the day clearly. It was sunset and you found your man down on one knee, opening a box to show you the most stunning ring you've ever seen. But lately, this ring has been more pain than beauty and it's a struggle to get it on and off. I feel your pain. At 30 weeks pregnant, I've said goodbye to my diamond rings - at least for the next few months. I had a few people tell me that they had to get their rings cut off when they were pregnant because they had not taken them off early enough! That was enough to convince me. It's time for my Momentum Rings to move from part-time gym status to full-time pregnant wife status.
So why do women’s fingers swell during pregnancy? Research shows that a woman’s body produces 50% more blood and bodily fluid during pregnancy to accommodate the needs of the growing child. With that much extra fluid, it makes a lot of sense that your shoes and rings may be feeling tight. While swelling is normal, we know it can also be frustrating and inconvenient.
As well as wearing a silicone ring as an alternative during pregnancy, the following steps are said to help minimise swelling in your feet and hands.
- Avoid standing for long periods.
- Ensure not to wear shoes or clothes that are tight around your feet, ankles or wrists.
- Put your feet up whenever you can.
- Drink more water.
- Limit the amount of salty foods in your diet
- Increase your potassium and eat a banana.
- Exercise in the mornings or evenings during summer
- Sleep on your left side to promote optimum blood flow.
- Exercise regularly.
- Go for a swim.
It sounds to me like a sunrise beach swim with a banana smoothie may be in order! Pop up your feet up, keep your wedding ring somewhere safe and slip on your Momentum Ring. I feel a lot better knowing that my diamond rings are safe and I also just feel better about my body's that I'm not having to wrench off my rings from swollen fingers in the middle of the night. Momentum Rings are effortless to put on and off and are so comfortable to wear. Check out our Women's range to find a suitable ring to combat that water retention.
Treat yourself to a ring. You are working hard and your fingers will thank you for it.
